A Question from the Introduction

In the Introduction, I ask the question, “If you are what you say you are then why would you tell yourself you are anything less than you want to be?”

This seems so logical yet how many people think about this? I can’t begin to tell you how often on the golf course after hitting a bad shot I would say to myself “You suck Kevin”. Really? When I played golf I was definitely above average and I didn’t really suck. The next shot was typically another bad one – why wouldn’t it be when I told myself I was terrible?

I often wonder how much better I could have been if I would have taken the attitude, “OK, everyone hits bad shots, so now let’s go hit a good one”. I wonder how many other things I could have done better if I would have realized the power of my own thoughts earlier in life, but then I quickly change that negative thought to “I am grateful I learned when I did and not later in life”.
In Change Your Thinking, Ignite Your Life, I talk more about having the right perspective.
